It’s strange how something ominously frightening — the centralized and militarized police state in the U.S. — can grow for 15 years at least and yet not enter into public debate. The upheaval in Ferguson, Missouri, has changed that. This is all to the good. It means that after the unchecked rise of the police state, the tide might finally be turning the other way.

Campaigning for the 2012 presidential race has already begun, but what the candidates don't know is that come election day, hackers could be the ones whose votes have the biggest impact.

Researchers from the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois have developed a hack that, for about $26 and an 8th-grade science education, can remotely manipulate the electronic voting machines used by millions of voters all across the U.S.

Today John Mitchel, former Republican candidate for Ohio’s Seventh Congressional District, filed suit (Case No: 2011-CV-0114) in Greene County Common Pleas Court to remove County Prosecutor Stephen K. Haller.  Mitchel alleges Haller practiced “gross misconduct” in the manner in which he defended himself and other Greene County Republican Executive Committee members in a public records request action filed in May 2009.  Mitchel also claims that Haller conspired with an assistant prosecutor to withhold public records related to the 2003 BRAC Initiative Agreement contract between Greene County and the Dayton Development Coalition.

The president addressed the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to a lukewarm reception. His comments once again ignored the group with the most to lose in this economy - small businesses.

President Obama addressed the United States Chamber of Commerce this week, receiving a less than warm reception. In his speech, the president stated that American companies are sitting on about $2 trillion and encouraged business leaders to spend that money on new jobs.

Pro-lifers are dedicated to the idea that God values all human life, they are committed to educating women about the dangers to their physical and emotional health if they undergo abortions, they are relentless in pointing out the horrors of abortion – and they are some of the most bloodthirsty warmongers on the planet.

Everyone should enjoy a basic right to privacy, according to one of the more compelling arguments against WikiLeaks' "megaleak" of ver 250,000 diplomatic cables.  In this view, a diplomatic communication should be protected so U.S. diplomats can communicate candidly to Washington, without fear their words will be made public and used against them.

Thank you for the invitation to comment on subject memo, “Better Buying Power: Mandate for Restoring Affordability and Productivity in Defense Spending.”  Except for a less-than-ambitious 2-3% expectation for reducing funding for unneeded or low priority overhead (read fraud, waste, abuse, corruption) in the way the Pentagon does business, I couldn’t agree more with your latest initiative to “support our forces at war on an urgent basis” and advance Secretary Gate’s mandate to be “respectful of the American taxpayer at a time of economic and fiscal distress.”  Right or wrong, the U.S. has committed its citizens to finance an expensive interventionist foreign policy which cannot be sustained without (1) bankrupting the U.S. economy or (2) drastically reducing wasteful, unneeded, and at times corrupt defense spending.

Having been lately fascinated with the Anabaptist way of life, I just watched the documentary “The Amish, A People of Preservation.”  The documentary had the strange allure of a home-made movie, and throughout the entire film a strong thread common to all Amish emerged: they do not want to become slaves to Progress at the expense of their families, communities and Faith.

I know to be true the words of Alexis de Tocqueville; "All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it."

I know to be true the words of Alexis de Tocqueville; "All those who seek to destroy the liberties of a democratic nation ought to know that war is the surest and shortest means to accomplish it."

Many forget so soon the words of First Lady Barbara Bush on Good Morning America back in 2003 when she discharged this vile statement on the coming of the invasion of Iraq; "Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths...I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

While attempting to obtain a list of Children Services applicants for the position of Director, I was faced with answers ranging from "I don't have it" to "I cannot give you that information," answers which could be called stonewalling by any seasoned reporter.  This forced us to obtain the records through public records requests, which were honored in a timely and efficient fashion by the Greene County Personnel Department.

Propaganda artists Jack Torry and John Nolan couldn’t have written a more one-sided piece on the recent Pentagon announcement that the MQ-1 Predator aircraft is on its way to the Springfield Air National Guard.  This article is nothing more than stroking whiny politicians from both parties looking for top cover as the November election approaches.

In the aftermath of the failure of Issue 7 in Xenia, some troubling details and statements have been brought to light by individuals seemingly affiliated with the Xenia Fire Division and the  IAFF Local 698, and these statements, which could be labeled even as subtle threats are found to be disturbing by local area residents.  Issue 7, was to be an increase of 0.5% in income taxes for Xenia residents. Greene County Commissioners Marilyn Reid and Alan Anderson were correct in significantly reducing taxpayer contributions to the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC), except their rationale for doing so didn’t reveal the whole story. True enough, the budget is tight, but even in good times our elected officials shouldn’t be throwing money over the fence to special interests without competition for that work, without value added and without oversight. That’s precisely what happened in 2005-2006 with the Base Realignment And Closure (BRAC) Initiative Agreement between Greene County and the DDC. The simple truth is the only jobs protected by this effort were high priced consultants, lobbyists and career politicians who received kickbacks to their political campaigns. Here are the facts to support that assertion.
