For parents, there is possibly no more frustrating and painful an experience than helplessly watching their children struggle with an illness. To help their son, Brandon, deal with bipolar disorder, Terri and Bill Spatz, of Beavercreek, turned for help to the Family Solutions Center.

 

BEAVERCREEK – For parents, there is possibly no more frustrating and painful an experience than helplessly watching their children struggle with an illness. Terri and Bill Spatz, of Beavercreek, know those feelings all too well.

A couple of years ago, their youngest son, 13-year-old Brandon, was feeling ill, experiencing pain, shortness of breath, and uncontrollable bursts of emotion. Overcome with anxiety, Brandon told his parents that kids were bullying him at school and he became more anxious and tempestuous as time passed.

Long-time Beavercreek resident Dr. Greg Palkowski, director of Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic has accepted an appointment by the governor to the Ohio State Chiropractic Board.

 

BEAVERCREEK - Beavercreek chiropractor Dr. Greg Palkowski has accepted an appointment to the Ohio State Chiropractic Board. The position was offered to Palkowski in November and confirmed by former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.

Palkowski is the director of Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic. He graduated in 1981, Magna Cum Laude, from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He completed his undergraduate studies at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York and has been in private practice since 1983.

Healthy Choices for Healthy Children legislation--SB 210--passed both Houses of the Ohio Legislator. The bi-partisan legislation aims to address childhood obesity. The Ohio Hospital Association also reports that more than one in three children (35.6 percent) in Ohio are overweight or obese. The bill specifically targets increased physical activity, improved nutritional options and body mass index (BMI) testing in Ohio schools. Commendable as this bill may be, its provisions like the following raise some questions:

Greene County epidemiologists usually see a handful of salmonella cases throughout an entire year, but four cases in two days is highly unusual and is a cause for concern. Out of the four infections found since Monday, May 17, two of the individuals involved required hospitalization; officials have not yet been able to determine the source or common grounds for the infections.

With the primaries behind us, the political atmosphere in Greene County is quickly return to the status quo.  Tea Party affiliated candidates lost in general by large margins, and no big surprises shocked county voters at the end of the day.  Big spending by Republican incumbents and insiders brought easy victories.
